On Tuesday afternoon, March 18, 2025, Lac Hong University (LHU) organised the training workshop "Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Teaching" for teachers at Vo Truong Toan High School, located in Cam My District. The workshop, widely attended by a significant number of teachers, was facilitated by distinguished speakers from LHU, including Dr. Le Phuong Truong, Head of the Office of Educational Testing and Quality Assurance, and MSc. Ngo Dinh Hoang Diem, Deputy Head of the Office of Educational Testing and Quality Assurance.
This programme not only equipped participants with knowledge on applying AI in education but also aimed to transform teaching mindsets, providing a gateway to modern and effective teaching methods that enhance education quality in the era of digital integration.
AI: A Catalyst for Change in Education
In today’s digital age, AI is more than just a supportive tool; it is a driving force behind comprehensive change in education. By adopting AI, teachers can save time, improve lecture quality, personalise students’ learning experiences, and inspire creativity. However, to harness AI's full potential, educators need to shift their mindset from merely using AI tools to creatively and flexibly applying AI. This approach enables them to blend traditional teaching methods with advanced technologies, creating an interactive and innovative learning environment.
In this context, MSc. Ngo Dinh Hoang Diem emphasised, "Educators, particularly high school teachers, must adopt an open mindset, embrace modern teaching methods suited to AI-supported learning environments, and actively equip themselves with AI skills. Keeping pace with technology is essential to gaining confidence and leadership in today’s education landscape."
Applying AI: Optimizing teaching in high school education
The workshop not only introduced fundamental knowledge about AI but also focused on the practical application of AI tools to optimise teaching methods, fostering a more effective and innovative learning environment for students.
1. Applying AI in STEM Education: Visualising Abstract Concepts
AI plays a pivotal role in enhancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, particularly in simplifying abstract scientific concepts that may challenge students. During the workshop, Dr. Le Phuong Truong guided teachers in creating 3D models and video simulations that visually represented scientific theories, making it easier for students to grasp knowledge.
AI tools such as Claude allow for visualising complex scientific ideas, transforming them into vivid, understandable imagery. For example, AI can generate molecular structure simulations in chemistry, evolution processes in biology, or physical laws in mechanics. This not only improves students’ access to knowledge but also fosters a love for STEM subjects, turning traditionally dry topics into engaging and dynamic lessons.
2. AI-Assisted Teaching Materials: Unleashing Teachers' Creativity
One of the most significant advantages of AI in education is its ability to assist teachers in designing diverse and innovative teaching materials. MSc. Ngo Dinh Hoang Diem shared methods for leveraging AI to create presentations, illustrations, songs, comics, and videos, making lessons more dynamic and engaging for students.
According to MSc. Ngo Dinh Hoang Diem, "Harnessing AI to develop such teaching materials not only saves teachers valuable time but also enhances creativity, fosters interaction, and improves teaching effectiveness, delivering an exceptional learning experience for students."
Moreover, teachers can inspire students’ curiosity and creativity through AI-supported group or individual presentation projects. By applying AI in designing teaching materials, lessons not only reach a higher standard of quality but also allow students to gain a deeper understanding, access broader perspectives, and experience subjects in a more enjoyable and innovative manner.
3. AI as a Virtual Tutor: 24/7 Learning Support for Students
AI also presents opportunities for developing virtual tutoring systems, offering students learning support anytime, anywhere. Through AI tools, teachers can create virtual tutors that assist students in resolving questions and delving deeper into lesson content.
Dr. Le Phuong Truong emphasised that human involvement remains essential, as teachers provide the lessons and educational content that AI relies upon to deliver detailed and customised explanations tailored to the individual needs of each student. By supplying content to train the AI, teachers ensure that the virtual tutors provide accurate answers and keep students focused, avoiding divergence during the process of consolidating new knowledge or revisiting past material.
Furthermore, this enables students to engage proactively with knowledge, fostering self-study and improving academic performance. The application of virtual tutoring systems not only enhances learning efficiency but also encourages students to independently explore and research new knowledge with greater flexibility.
4. AI in Assessment and Evaluation
AI offers a level of objectivity, accuracy, and efficiency in assessment that surpasses traditional methods:
According to Dr. Le Phuong Truong, "AI is a vital assistant for teachers, not only saving time and ensuring fairness and accuracy but also optimising the effectiveness of assessment and feedback on student performance."
AI: A turning point for education
Incorporating AI into teaching is not merely support; it represents a groundbreaking reform in education. AI enhances teaching quality, drives innovation in instructional methods, and delivers fresh, effective learning experiences. By integrating AI, teaching transcends rigid frameworks, creating a more flexible, imaginative, and student-friendly learning environment.
