At Lac Hong University

Students making machines for an enterprise

Two students of Lac Hong University have successfully manufactured an automatic machine that can replace manual labor for a 100% foreign capital invested company in Bien Hoa Industrial Zone II, Dong Nai province. The cost to produce the machine is not more than VND 100 million, but it brings the company huge profit more than VND 250 million each year and reduces three workers.

Students still “do good job”

Making Limiter A Tape Gear fitting machine began from May, 2011. At that time, students of Lac Hong’s Faculty of Electro Mechanics Nguyen Thanh Tu and Nguyen Van Dung were taking internship at Plus Vietnam Industrial Co., Ltd. They were commissioned to fix and improve machines fitting production requirements.

Tu and Dung realized that assembling Limiter A Tape Gear can be automatic. It took them one month to discuss measures and models to be able to automate the production stage. Being reported, the leadership and engineers of Plus Vietnam Industrial Co., Ltd agreed with the project.

It took them nearly four months later to complete mechanical part and programming. Until early October, the machine was finished. During the production process, many parts were improved with suggestions from engineers of the company.

The machine has proved efficient and stable after three months of operation. Deputy Manager of Technique Development Department of Plus Vietnam Industrial Co., Ltd Nguyen Vinh Su said that the company is currently planning to manufacture one more machine to meet production needs due to increased orders. The second one will have few improvements so that it can run more smoothly than the first one.

Limiter A Tape Gear designed and made by students is now used in Plus Vietnam Industrial Co., Ltd.

Earlier, in 2010, a group of Lac Hong University’s students when taking apprenticeship here, together with engineers successfully created one machine that can fit ink cartridges into correction pens automatically and now it still works effectively.

Machines run well

Eng. Nguyen Phan Hoang Duy who has worked in Plus Vietnam Industrial Co., Ltd, a 100 % Japanese capital invested company for three years said “The machine still runs well without any problems after more than three months of operation".

Previously , Limiter A Tape Gear assembling step  – rotation axis part in correction pens was done mainly by hands. This stage needed four workers. Each completed 4,000 products a shift. Made by hands, faulty products occupied 40%. Presently, by using the automatic machine, the number of employees is reduced. A finished product just takes one and a half second (compared with 6 seconds formerly) . Especially, malfunctioned products now only  make up 12 %.

Responding to the question why the company does not import this kind of machine but it uses the one made by students, Deputy Manager Nguyen Vinh Su explained "since the company often manufactures new models of products used in offices, it may costly to buy the machine. On the other hand, the imported one is difficult to meet regular changes in designs and products. Therefore, the company chooses home-made machines due to lower cost and higher productivity".
