LHU: What is gained from robot playground?

In four consecutive years (from 2010 to 2013), Lac Hong University robot teams has been continually the champion of Robocon Vietnam, and won many honorable awards at ABU Asia - Pacific Robot Contests.

So far, how LHU has always occupied a high position in national and international robot playgrounds has been still a question for many people.

In fact, robocon playground is great ambition of universities and colleges not only in Vietnam but also in Asia - Pacific region from many years. To gain high achievements in robocon playground, schools are required  to have a deep and scientific investment, both in terms of manpower and material resources. The special thing of LHU in comparison with many other institutions in the country is laboratories and workshops which are open to welcome all students who love technology and have practical needs . Thanks to these laboratories, dry theoretic lessons will be tested by practice, including robot invention.

To recruit manpower for robocon playground, Lac Hong University gathers students who have real passion for making robots. Each robot team has from 5 to 7 members, including freshmen and senior students to ensure inheritance. Each team has an instructor, but  the key force is students with robots controlling and manufacturing experience formed from previous years. When manpower matter is completed, material one is created maximum conditions, thus making students who love robots not encounter any difficulties, both in machinery and time.

A playground uncovers students' creative potential.

Rare is a non-public university in the country which establishes its own robot workshop as Lac Hong University has done. Robot workshop is the place where robots are made. When 24 hours is not enough and the day of competition comes near, robot workshop is the place members can take a nap. According to Le Hong Hai, a students loving robot invention, grasping the theory is very important. However, the successful factor is intensive practice in mechanical workshops, laboratories or modern robotic shops, especially working skills and creativity in groups.

From the right investment

We reap as we sow.  From the serious investment for playground robocon, Lac Hong University almost occupied unique position of  this playground in recent years. In Lam Thanh Hien's opinion - Vice Rector, not being consecutive champion is profitable if compared to the received bonus because it is not worth in comparison with the money that the University invested in this playground. In addition to honor and fame, the benefit that can be seen is technology screened from robot invention which is applied into real life.

Internal competitions between the robot teams will bring many advances.

There have been many technological products students of Lac Hong University delivered directly to businesses, such as automatic grill arranging technology transferred to Vietnam Plus Co., Ltd, automatic spark coil assembling technology to Nectokin company (Japan). Thanks to this, the University has fund to cover playground robocon. Also, students of Lac Hong University has chances to meet enterprises, be in contact with reality, thence get jobs easily.

According to People's Teacher Dr. Do Huu Tai - Rector of LHU, robocon is a scientific playground. Developing this playground is to extend and encourage scientific research activities in students. In robocon competition, winning is important, but not all. It is important since students are motivated  to continue to invest more gray matter in scientific research.  If students want to join in not only robocon playground but also other scientific or technical playgrounds, the University Management Board will be willing to support.

In students' insight, robot playground is not win or lose, but passion for science and technology. For enterprises, this is the key to look for talented students for their development, and for Lac Hong University, it is the lesson of the intensive and methodical investment for all the students.
