LHEV - Fuel Cell team to compete at Shell Eco Marathon 2024

LHU's LHEV - Fuel Cell team will compete at the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia Pacific & Middle East 2024 from 2nd to 6th July at the Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, Indonesia.

Shell Eco-marathon is one of the world’s leading engineering competitions for students. It challenges students across the globe to design, build their own ultra-energy efficient vehicles and then take them out on the track in competition.

To date, LHU has excellently won five Asian championships and named in the world’s top teams 4 times at the Shell Eco Marathon.

This year's competition, the LH-EV FUEL CELL team (comprising 5 members from the Department of Automotive Engineering Technology, Faculty of Mechatronics and Electronics) will compete with talented rivals in the Urban Concept category - Hydrogen fuel cell. This category requires teams to design an urban electric vehicle using hydrogen energy. This is not only a technical challenge but also an opportunity for young engineers to affirm their creativity and abilities to overcome limits.

To participate in this competition, the team has carefully prepared and designed the vehicle using ultra-light materials to reduce weight to optimize fuel consumption, while achieving the best speed per liter of fuel. The team's highlight is using hydrogen and oxygen energy to generate electricity to power a 1000W motor, helping the vehicle operate effectively at speeds of up to 50km/h and run for many hours depending on the container volume.

According to the 2024 Shell Eco Marathon rules, teams must pass technical inspections and 5 competition rounds to calculate fuel consumption. Only teams passing inspections will advance to the track for practice runs. The team that uses the least amount of fuel will be the winner.
